How I work
The portraits shown on this site are samples of the realistic style and quality of my work. Normally, since the painting takes many weeks and would require a great deal of time from the sitter, I prefer to paint from photos that I take, or ones that are supplied by you if I feel they will make a quality painting. Usually, I find that photos taken with a flash from the camera do not make good paintings. You can e-mail a copy of your favorite photo and I will evaluate whether or not it will be suitable for painting, and give you a price for the work. When I do the photography, I will take many shots with a digital camera and review them on the spot with you, to see which one is best suited for the painting. Sometimes a composite combination of different shots, possibly substituting a different background or clothing will be the final selection. In any case, you will know, before I make the first brush stroke, exactly what the finished painting will look like.
Many times I will make small color sketches for later use to compare with the photography while I'm painting. And occasionally I might ask for one or two live sittings when the painting is finished, just to check for any additions or corrections that you or I might see.
Pricing
My portraits range in price from $500 for just a head shot with a simple colorful, artistic background, to approximately $15,000 for a life size, full body, with an elaborate background or furnishings. Prices are based on my estimate of the working time necessary for completion. I require a 50% payment upon acceptance of the photo, with the balance due upon acceptance of the finished painting. I guarantee satisfaction, or a refund of the initial payment, less any out-of-pocket expenses I may have incurred. If the painting is rejected it is hereby acknowledged that I may use that painting to exhibit as a sample of my work.
(As of this date, that has never occurred.)
